STATEMENT

My work explores how our self-imposed filters and layers of experience construct our perception of reality and truth. My process echoes this idea of layered and manipulated realities.

My work is a hybrid of straight photography, assemblage, and collage. Much of my work combines original imagery and found objects, sometimes constructed as a kind of still life and then photographed and sometimes combined digitally.

I am a photographer at heart and my artistic practice comes from that perspective. Experimentation with light, shadow, reflections, and the conventions of how the camera captures reality are all part of my method. Dance has also been a big part of my life and expressive gesture and movement play a role in my image making as well.

My artistic practice informs my teaching practice and working with my students keeps my perspective fresh, allowing me to continually reassess, recalibrate, and reimagine my world view.
